Thought for Today

We can affirm the future because God’s counsel grants a clear perspective by which to view and deal with it.

Perspective is a calculate angle of vision that grants the viewer a sense of the wholeness of what is being viewed. As in art, so in life, a right place to stand and view things is a key factor for meaning and value. Given the brokenness of this world, the logic of life is not immediately apparent; we are more apt to appreciate and value life when we have found the right place at which to stand and view it.

Life

A crust of bread and a corner to sleep in,

A minute to smile and an hour to weep in,

A pint of joy to a peck of trouble,

And never a laugh but the moans come double;

And that is life!

A crust and a corner that love makes precious,

With a smile to warm and the tears to refresh us;

And joy seems sweeter when cares come after,

And a moan is the finest of foils for laughter;

And that is life!

Paul Laurence Dunbar
